Birkas Hamazon After 72 Minutes

AA

Question

Hello esteemed Rabbi, I would like to ask if it is permissible to recite Birkas Hamazon after 72 minutes have passed, because often I forget to say it and only remember after a long time.

Answer

Greetings,

If you ate bread in the amount of a kazais only, it is not permitted to recite Birkas Hamazon after 72 minutes. However, if you ate from the bread to the amount of a shvi'ah(being full and satisfied), you can recite it as long as you do not feel hungry from that eating - up to six hours.

Sources: Refer to Shulchan Aruch (Orach Chaim 174:5), Mishnah Berurah (S"K), and Halachah Brurah (13, Biur Halachah 11).

Blessings,

Hillel Meirs
