Dreaming of a Snake, What Does It Mean?
Esteemed Rabbi Benjamin Shmueli Responds
Question
With God's help,
Hi Rabbi,
Occasionally, I dream (about every two months or so) of snakes. I will describe two dreams that I remember: the snakes are different from regular snakes. They are large both in length and thickness. At one time (perhaps I am mistaken due to forgetting the dream), there was a snake that had short legs like a crocodile, but I am aware that it is a snake and not a crocodile. Once the snake was black and once gray, and they have very large faces—at one time resembling the face of a dark crocodile and at other times like the face of a gray monster. Sometimes the snake wants to bite (the gray one) and sometimes it starts to chase (the black one). I would appreciate an interpretation/opinion.
Thank you.
Answer
Greetings and blessings to you,
The dream, even though it is frightening, is definitely a good omen. Our sages said in the Talmud (Berakhot 57a): "A person who sees a snake in a dream—provision is prepared for him; if it bites him—his livelihood is doubled." May Hashem help you see the realization of your dream interpretation soon.
Blessings, Benjamin Shmueli.
