Is it Permissible to Recite Tehillim on Yom Kipur?

AA

Question

Hello, esteemed Rabbi, I would like to know if it is permitted to recite chapters of Tehillim during the fast?

Answer

Greetings,

It is permissible to recite Tehillim on Yom Kipur, including the chapters of Hallel that are written there. Although the Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim (Siman 614, Se'if 1) states that Hallel is not recited on Yom Kipur, the Mishnah Berurah (Si'if Katan 2) writes that those who recite Tehillim every day and come across Hallel on Yom Kipur are allowed to say it since it is not recited in a singsong manner, but rather as a supplication and request.

Gmar Chatimah Tovah,

Hillel Meirs
