Is Yom Kippur a Holiday or a Fast?

Hello, esteemed Rabbi, I would like to ask: Is the fast of Yom Kippur a holiday or a fast? If it is a holiday, why do we fast on it? Thank you very much, Ma'ayan.

This holy day is indeed Yom Kippur, a day of atonement, and thus we fast on it to merit atonement and for many other reasons. On the other hand, it is a great holiday, and is there a greater holiday than the day we merit atonement for our sins, the day we are purified from all sin and transgression and come close to Hashem?
