Question

Is it permissible to shower on the 17th of Tammuz?

Thank you very much.

Answer

Greetings,

It is permissible to shower on the 17th of Tammuz (Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chaim 554:2). According to the custom of Sephardim, one may also shower with hot water (Chazon Ovadia, Four Fasts, pp. 21-22). However, the custom of Ashkenazim is to avoid showering with hot water on the entire body; nevertheless, showering with cold water and washing one's face, hands, and feet with hot water is permitted (Shaar HaTziyon 554:38).

Blessings,

Hillel Meirs
