When Should One Bow During the Amidah Prayer?

AA

Question

Shalom, when should one bow during the Shmonei Esrei prayers?

Thank you in advance,

Hadas

Answer

Shalom,

One bows four times during the Amidah prayer.

When beginning the first blessing of the Amidah, when saying "Baruch," one bows with the knee, and when saying "Atah," one bows with the head and straightens up before saying Hashem's name. This is also done at the conclusion of the first blessing - "Baruch Atah Hashem Magen Avraham," when saying "Baruch," one bows with the knee, and when saying "Atah," one bows with the head and straightens up before mentioning Hashem's name.

During the recitation of the Modim blessing, when saying "Modim Anachnu Lach," one bows {but does not bend the knee}. And when saying "Hashem," one straightens up, and at the end of the blessing - "Baruch Atah Hashem Hatov Shemcha U'lezaruch Lehodot," when saying "Baruch," one bows with the knee, and when saying "Atah," one bows with the head and straightens up before mentioning Hashem's name.

The order of bowing at the end of the standing prayer at the end of the Amidah, when saying "Oseh Shalom B'Mromav," one bows first to the left, and then when saying "Hu Ya'aseh Shalom Aleinu" to the right, "and for all of Israel, and say Amen", one bows straight.

May it be Your will that your prayers be accepted with mercy and favor,

Binyamin Shmueli
