What is the atonement for a person who had relations with a nidah?

AA

Question

What is the atonement for the man and what is the atonement for the woman? What happens if the person is reincarnated in this final incarnation and has not atoned but has sinned by engaging with a woman during her nidah? What are their judgment and atonement, if possible, please respond.

Answer

Hello and blessings,

There is nothing that stands before genuine repentance. With true repentance, everything is rectified. I will quote what the Chatam Sofer wrote in part 1 (Orach Chaim) paragraph 186 regarding the corrections of repentance for one who engaged with a nidah. My beloved, the essence of repentance is regret, confession, and forsaking the sin, and then he is immediately a complete penitent. However, the afflictions are to save him from punishment for what was done, as explained in the books. One should fast for five days, and if fasting is difficult, one can redeem the fast with charity.

This charity should be given to organizations that promote purity, thus they merit to rectify the blemish. If, Heaven forbid, they did not succeed in returning in repentance, their punishment is explicitly stated in the Torah, which is the punishment of karet; the Kabbalists wrote that a reincarnation would occur in a gentile who engages with nidot.

With blessings, - Binyamin Shmuali
