What is the significance of a child born circumcised?
Question
Dear Rabbi, my grandson was born circumcised, to our joy, and he is now seven years old. He is a descendant of a well-known mohel (circumciser). From a young age, he spoke and interspersed words in Aramaic, and for some time he has been asking me for a small rolled Torah scroll. When he was one year old, he found a book of Psalms on the table, held it to his mouth, and kissed it.
I would like to receive more information about my grandson who was born circumcised (what does this mean and what does Kabbalah say about it)?
Answer
Shalom and blessings,
You should have much nachas from your special grandson. One who is born completely circumcised is on a very high spiritual level. Many of our nation's great figures were born circumcised, such as Moshe Rabbeinu, Yaakov Avinu, Yosef HaTzaddik, Shmuel HaNavi, David HaMelech, Shem Ben Noach, Noach himself, and Adam HaRishon was created this way. Also, Shet, his son, was born circumcised, Zerubbabel Ben Shealtiel, and several other righteous people [according to one opinion in the Midrash, a total of ten righteous ones, while according to another opinion, fifteen righteous ones were born circumcised].
As far as I know, and I have received this from a mohel who has circumcised thousands of infants, there currently is not such a condition as being born completely circumcised. There are indeed children born with only a small foreskin, and sometimes a very small foreskin where almost all the organ is uncovered [or the foreskin is retracted and not immediately noticeable]. If indeed your grandson was born completely circumcised, this is truly a very special condition, one in hundreds of thousands. Lucky you. I also feel that the more I learn, the more I realize I know nothing. Continue your studies and you should succeed, and may you also positively influence your next generation!
Wishing you success - Menashe Yisrael
