Do We Say the Traveler's Prayer on the Return Trip?
Question
Hello, I have two questions:
1. When I travel a distance that requires the Traveler's Prayer, do I say it only on the way there?
2. When I return after a day or several days, do I need to say the Traveler's Prayer on the return trip as well? Thank you in advance.
Answer
Greetings,
1. When you travel and return on the same day, you should say the Traveler's Prayer only on the way there, and you should add the phrase "and may You bring us back in peace" within the text.
2. When you return the following day (having slept overnight at the destination), you should say the Traveler's Prayer on the return trip as well (see Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chaim 110:5, and Mishnah Berurah there).
With best regards,
