Who Killed Jesus?
Question
Hello. I have heard several times accusations against Jews that they killed Jesus. If this is true and the Sanhedrin judged him—then in Judaism there is no death penalty like crucifixion, which means that Jesus' crucifixion is a legend? Or are we not connected to this? Thank you
Answer
With G-d's help
Hello and blessings,
At that time, the Roman government ruled over the land of Israel.
The Sanhedrin judged Jesus, but it did not have the authority to execute him. Therefore, it delivered him to the Roman authorities who crucified him (since they prohibited the existence of new religions).
However, regarding the accusation, it is worth correcting a common misconception:
Christians around the world do not believe that Jesus was a prophet of flesh and blood.
According to their belief, Jesus was G-d Himself, the Creator of the entire universe, who caused a virgin woman to conceive and entered the body of an infant, becoming a man of flesh and blood who was killed on the cross. According to their faith, a deity—G-d—became human. And he was murdered by human beings.
With blessings,
