Must a Pregnant Woman Fast on Yom Kippur?

AA

Question

Does a woman in the early stages of pregnancy need to fast on Yom Kippur? Thank you

Answer

Greetings,

If the pregnancy is progressing normally, she should fast on Yom Kippur. If not, it is advisable to consult with a doctor and a halachic authority.

Sources: This is found in the Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chaim (Siman 617, Section 1) where it states that pregnant women fast and complete the fast on Yom Kippur.

Wishing you a good and inscribed year,

Hillel Meirs
