What is a stolen, cut off, and orphaned "Amen"?
Question
With G-d's help
Hello, esteemed Rabbi,
Could you please explain to me the concepts of a stolen, cut off, and orphaned "Amen"?
Thank you very much
Answer
Hello,
It is forbidden to respond with a stolen, cut off, or orphaned "Amen".
A stolen "Amen" refers to making sure to pronounce the correct vowels under the letters, and not to rush to say "Amen" before the person making the blessing has finished.
A cut off "Amen" means that the pronunciation of the "Nun" is missing and does not come out of the person's mouth.
An orphaned "Amen" means that one must respond with "Amen" immediately after the conclusion of the blessing; if one waits and responds with "Amen" after a lapse of about a second and a half, it is considered an orphaned "Amen".
