Brit Milah on the Fast of Gedaliah
Question
A woman who gave birth today, and the brit milah is on the Fast of Gedaliah, how should we behave? Is anyone allowed to eat? Thank you for your help
Answer
Shalom,
There is a dispute regarding whether the participants in the brit milah (the father of the boy, the mohel, and the sandak) are permitted to eat on a brit milah that falls on the Fast of Gedaliah, and the halacha states that they must fast (in a year when the fast is not postponed). Therefore, the advice is to perform the brit during the day and have the meal after the fast.
