Is it permissible to recite the Shema of Shacharit after its designated time?
Question
I wanted to ask about the morning Shema. If I did not have the opportunity to recite the Shema before its time ends in the morning (around 9 AM, if I am not mistaken)—is it permissible to recite the Shema even after its time? Thank you
Answer
Dear Sir,
Even if the time for reciting the Shema has passed, it is still possible to recite it throughout the entire day. Although one will not fulfill the mitzvah of reciting the Shema in its time, and there will not be reward like that of one who recites it on time, there is still merit in accepting the yoke of heaven. Additionally, the section "Vayomer" is required to be recited even after the time for the Shema has passed, since its time extends until evening.
