Are Sephardim Allowed to Marry During the Ben Hameitzarim?
Question
Hello and blessings, is a Mizrahi couple allowed to marry during the Ben Hameitzarim? (Assuming that the guests are also Mizrahi if that matters).
Thank you very much
Answer
Greetings,
According to the custom of the Sephardim, it is permitted to conduct weddings from the 17th of Tammuz until Rosh Chodesh Av, and they refrain only from the night of Rosh Chodesh Av until after Tisha B'Av (Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim 551:2, Responsa Yabia Omer vol. 6 Orach Chaim 43, and Responsa Yechave Da'at vol. 1 36).
It does not matter who the guests are, as Ashkenazim are also permitted to attend such a wedding - since it is conducted with complete permission (Asheri HaIsh vol. 3 p. 457 in the name of Rav Yisroel Salanter zt"l).
Best regards,
