Is it Permissible to Shower on the Fast of the Seventeenth of Tammuz?

It is permissible to shower on the Seventeenth of Tammuz (Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chaim 557:2). According to the custom of the Sephardim, one may also use hot water (Chazon Ovadia, Four Fasts, pages 21-22). However, the custom of Ashkenazim is to refrain from showering with hot water over the entire body, but a shower with cold water as well as washing one's face, hands, and feet with hot water is permitted (Shaar Hatziyon 557:21).
