I Dreamed That My Teeth Fell Out—What Does It Mean?
Question
Hello, I dreamt this morning that three of my teeth fell out. It was around 8 AM, and I woke up from it. Generally, Rabbi Chaim of blessed memory advises against interpreting dreams. Therefore, I did not turn to him. I interpret the dream positively, hoping that all my enemies will fall, but I am still afraid because dreams about teeth are discussed in the Gemara. I thought about donating charity; it's a bit difficult for me, but if necessary, I will do it... What should I do??? I would appreciate a reply as soon as possible.
Answer
Shalom and blessings,
If your teeth have hurt you recently, there is no need to worry about the meaning of this dream [Mishnah Berurah, Orach Chaim 258].
Even if your teeth have not hurt you recently, in which case it is known that the interpretation of a dream about falling teeth could be negative, it is worth noting the words of Rabbi Yehuda Patya in the book Menchat Yehuda (Siman 47) that now demons know the things that people are concerned about if they see them in a dream; for example, someone who dreams that their teeth fell out, or who dresses in black, and so on. Therefore, they show these things to people in order to cause them distress about them. Hence, one should not be concerned about such dreams, and if one does not pay attention to it, blessings will come upon them. Even if you do not worry, blessings will come upon you.
If you are in debt [even a bank overdraft counts for this], there is an implication in the dream that soon you will be freed from the burden of debts, since a borrower is referred to as a servant to the lender, as it is written in the Torah, and a servant is freed when their teeth are knocked out. Thus, this is a sign for the dreamer that they will soon be liberated from the burden of debts. And may goodness and kindness pursue you all the days. This is how the great rabbi and author of the book Amudei Esh, of blessed memory, interpreted this dream positively.
If you are still apprehensive, do as our sages advised and go to the synagogue this coming Shabbat. When the kohanim (priests) ascend to bless with the priestly blessing, say this prayer:
"Master of the universe, I am Yours, and my dreams are Yours. I have had a dream, and I do not know what it is. May it be Your will, Hashem my God and God of my fathers, that all my dreams be for good for me and for all of Israel, whether I dreamed about myself or whether I dreamed about others, and whether others dreamed about me. If they are good, strengthen them and fortify them, and may they be fulfilled in me and in them like the dreams of Joseph the righteous; and if they need healing, heal them like Hezekiah the King of Judah from his sickness, and like Miriam the prophetess from her leprosy, and like Naaman from his leprosy, and like the waters of Marah through our teacher Moses. And just as You turned Bilam's curse into a blessing, so may you turn all my dreams for me and for all of Israel to good and protect me and show me grace and favor."
Wishing you success - Menashe Yisrael
