Is It Permissible to Use a Shabbat Elevator on Yom Kippur?
Question
Hello honorable Rabbi, I observe Yom Kippur at my family’s home on the eighth floor. Baruch Hashem, I am healthy and not pregnant, but I believe it will be difficult for me to climb up and down so many floors while fasting when I want to go to the synagogue. My question is, may I use a Shabbat elevator?

Greetings and blessings, It is permitted to use a Shabbat elevator both for ascending and descending on Yom Kippur. Those who are stringent and refrain from descending in a Shabbat elevator will receive a blessing, provided that abstaining does not lead to weakness during the fast. Blessings, Menashe Ben Porat
