Choosing a Name for a Baby Girl

AA

Question

We were blessed with a baby girl born on 22/7/07, 7th of Av, at 11:34. We are debating among the names Lian, Leah, Lia, Linoy, and other names beginning with the letter L. We would also like to know which names are appropriate for the date and the zodiac sign of Cancer. Thank you very much.

Answer

Congratulations. In my opinion, based on accepted tradition, the most suitable name among the four you mentioned is the second one. It is a meaningful name containing the letter Hei, which holds the power of bringing forth offspring, and it is also a sacred name of one of the matriarchs of the people of Israel. Additionally, it is a name fitting for the birthdate. The other names are not recommended. I note that the birth date, 7th of Av, is a date of significance in the Jewish calendar and is mentioned in the Mishnah (Ta’anit, Chapter 4, Mishnah 1). When the Temple stood, it was celebrated as the festival of bringing wood to the altar. Wishing you success – Menashe Israel.
