The Name Noam for a Son

AA

Question

Hello, honorable rabbi. Yesterday, with Hashem's help, my wife and I had a baby born on Shabbat at 16:24, April 28, 13 Iyar (here in Israel). I have two questions I wish to ask:

1. We were thinking, with Hashem's help and without a vow, of the name Noam based on the verse "May Hashem's pleasantness be upon us; establish the work of our hands for us, establish the work of our hands." What is your opinion? And is a second name necessary?

2. Should the brit milah without a vow be on Shabbat? Thank you very much.

Answer

Greetings,

1. The name Noam is good and recommended. There is no need for a second name unless you desire it.

2. Your son's brit milah should be on the following Shabbat. However, it should be emphasized that this applies only if he was born by a regular birth; if he was born by cesarean section, his brit milah does not override Shabbat and is postponed to the subsequent Sunday (see Shulchan Aruch Yoreh De'ah 260:10).

With blessings of mazal tov and much satisfaction,

Hillel Meirs.
