Is It Permissible to Get a Haircut on Motza'ei Shabbat?

AA

Question

Hello, is it permissible to get a haircut on Motza'ei Shabbat? Thank you.

Answer

Hello,

In principle, it is permissible to get a haircut on Motza'ei Shabbat. However, it is proper to avoid doing so because it is not considered honoring Shabbat if one did not take the effort to get a haircut before Shabbat in honor of Shabbat, and only remembers to get a haircut after Shabbat ends.

Sources: See in the book Sha'alat Rav, Part 2 (page 300), where Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, Shlit"a, was asked whether it is correct not to get a haircut on Motza'ei Shabbat. He replied that it is not honoring Shabbat. It should also be noted, according to Rabbi Shalom Kluger, of blessed memory, in Chochmat Shlomo Orach Chaim (Siman 373), who wrote, "It is especially disgraceful to avoid shaving for Shabbat and then shave on Sunday after Shabbat." See there for further details.

With blessings,

Hillel Meirs
