Is There Significance to a Dream on Shabbat Afternoon?

AA

Question

Hello esteemed Rabbi, my grandmother passed away a year ago, and since then I have dreamed of her every Shabbat afternoon, sometimes also on Friday night or on a weekday. In this past year, there were only three Shabbat afternoons when I do not remember dreaming of her. Is there significance to dreaming on Shabbat afternoon? It should be noted that she appeared in a dream to another close relative and it was true—she owed money, etc.

Thank you.

Answer

Greetings, Sometimes dreams in the morning have significance, as it is stated in the Talmud, Berakhot (page 55b), that a morning dream is fulfilled. However, there is no particular significance to a dream on Shabbat afternoon. This is a general rule, but it depends on the content of the dream, since nowadays most dreams, even morning ones, have no significance. Sometimes a dream at another time may have meaning. Each dream should be considered on its own merits.

Best wishes, Hillel Meirs
