Is It Permissible to Sleep with One's Feet Facing the Door?

AA

Question

Hello esteemed Rabbi, is there any reference in our holy Torah (or halacha) regarding the placement of the bed in relation to the door in the bedroom?

Many thanks.

Answer

Greetings,

Many avoid sleeping with their feet pointing towards the door because this is the manner in which a corpse is traditionally laid out; however, there is no prohibition against this.

Sources: See Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, shlita, in the book Da'at Nota, Part 1 (page 159) and in the book Shivrit HaGuf VeHaNefesh, Part 2 (page 396, s.v. V'nish'alti).

Blessings, Hillel Meirs
