Ask the Rabbi - General
Is it permissible for a girl to visit the graves of the righteous while she is in a state of niddah?
Question
Hello and blessings,
Is it permissible for a girl to visit the graves of the righteous while she is in a state of niddah and even to touch the grave?
Thank you very much
Answer
Greetings,
1. According to Jewish law, a woman is permitted to go to the graves of the righteous even while she is experiencing her menstrual cycle; however, it is advised to refrain from doing so (see Teharat HaBayit, Part 2, Siman 12, Seif 44).
This concern applies even when the tomb is isolated (such as the grave of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai) and not located within a cemetery (response of Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, Shlit”a, cited in Da'at Noteh, Part 1, Page 236).
2. Those who usually refrain from entering a cemetery do so specifically during their menstrual cycle, but during the period of counting the seven clean days, it is permissible to enter (see Teharat HaBayit, there).
