Is the name Achinoam recommended for a daughter?

AA

Question

Hello,

I am expecting to give birth soon, B'ezrat Hashem. I wanted to ask whether the meanings of the names Achinoam and Michal are positive in the sources and if they are recommended?

Thank you.

Answer

Hello,

The name Achinoam has a positive meaning and is a good name for girls. We find in I Samuel 14:50 that Saul the king's wife was named Achinoam, daughter of Ahimaaz. Also, in I Samuel 25:43, King David took Achinoam of Jezreel as a wife. Likewise, the name Michal also has a positive meaning and is a good name for girls, as Saul the king named his daughter Michal, as written in I Samuel 18:20. Moreover, the opinion of the esteemed Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, shlita, is that it is permissible to name a daughter by this name without any concern. Please see the book Vayikra Shmo B'Yisrael, pages 406-433. Mazal tov.
