Is it true that a person has no shadow 30 days before passing away?

AA

Question

Hello, esteemed Rabbi! Is it true that 30 days before a person passes away, they have no shadow? And if this is true, does it also apply to non-Jews? Thank you.

Answer

Peace be upon you. It is brought in the holy Zohar (Parashat Vayechi, folio 276b) in the name of Rabbi Yehuda that thirty days before a person's death, the person's image darkens, and the figure visible in the world disappears. This teaching does not distinguish between Jews and non-Jews. The Or HaChaim (Bereishit 47:29) writes that although this knowledge is denied to human beings, the righteous feel and know all spiritual matters.

Blessings, Hillel Meirs.
