The Current Location of the Tablets of the Covenant

Question

Hello, I would like to know where the Tablets of the Covenant are today, as well as all the Temple vessels such as the Menorah, the Ark of the Covenant, etc. Are their locations known?

Answer

Hello.

The Tablets that Moshe placed inside the Ark of the Covenant have remained there and were never removed. When King Hezekiah was informed of the impending destruction, he commanded the priests of the Temple to conceal the Ark and its contents [as well as surrounding items such as Aaron's staff, the jar of manna, and others] within the hidden tunnels that Solomon prepared beneath the Holy of Holies. This is summarized by Rambam (Hilchot Beit Habechirah, chapter 4): "There was a stone in the western part of the Holy of Holies upon which the Ark rested, and in front of it were the jar of manna and Aaron's staff. When Solomon built the Temple, knowing its end would be destruction, he constructed a place to hide the Ark deep within obscure and winding tunnels. King Hezekiah commanded that it be hidden in the place Solomon built, as it is stated: 'And He said to the Levites who understood, to all Israel, the holy to Hashem, take the Ark of the Covenant into the house that Solomon son of David King of Israel built. You have no burden on your shoulders now; serve Hashem your God,' and it was hidden along with Aaron's staff, the jar, the anointing oil, and all these things never returned to the Second Temple." Even if the Muslims were to continue excavating the Temple Mount, they will never uncover the Ark of the Covenant and the Tablets, which were divine, heavenly, and utterly miraculous. [Naturally, it is impossible for four men to carry the weight of the Tablets which were enormous stones weighing tons, and, as is known, the Ark was designed to bear its contents. The Ark will be revealed along with what is inside it only in the end of days when Hashem’s will to redeem us fully is revealed, speedily.] For a different perspective, good luck – Menashe Yisrael.
