A Convert Who Does Not Observe the Mitzvot

AA

Question

I wanted to know what is the status of a person who has undergone conversion but does not observe Torah and mitzvot at all? Is he still considered Jewish?

Answer

Shalom and blessings,

If the convert did not accept the yoke of Torah and mitzvot at all and deceived the Beit Din (rabbinical court), the conversion is not valid at all.

However, if the non-Jew accepted all the mitzvot and did not deceive the Beit Din, and afterwards his yetzer hara (evil inclination) strengthened and he began to sin, he remains Jewish; his Judaism is not nullified, and he can return in full repentance like any Jew.

With blessings - Binyamin Shmueli
