Halachot and Customs
Do the bride and groom pray the Mincha service of Yom Kippur on the evening of the wedding canopy?
Question
I heard that on the wedding canopy day, the bride and groom pray the Mincha service of Yom Kippur. Is this correct?
Thank you in advance!
Answer
Greetings,
It is the Ashkenazic custom that the groom recites the full confession liturgy of Yom Kippur at the end of the Mincha Amidah on the evening of his wedding canopy (see Piskei Teshuvot, Even HaEzer, siman 61, footnote 9). Likewise, brides follow this custom (Shulchan HaEzer, siman 6, se'if 3). However, this custom is not found among Sephardim (Shu"t Yabia Omer, part 3, Even HaEzer 9).
