Regarding the Name Liah ליה

AA

Question

Hello, I was blessed with a daughter on Rosh Hashanah. My wife really wants the name Liah; she feels connected to it and thinks it sounds beautiful. However, I told her that it is a foreign name, carries a negative connotation, and that rabbis recommend avoiding it. What should we do? I told her I would ask a rabbi and we would act accordingly. Thank you and Gmar Chatima Tova.

Answer

Greetings, It is not recommended to name your daughter Liah. We would be happy to assist further. With blessings for mazal tov and much nachas, Hillel Meirs
