AA

Question

How can one rectify and atone for relations with a non-Jew?
I come from a traditional home, and therefore this matter pains me greatly and I am tormenting myself over it.
I would appreciate an answer as soon as possible,
Thank you.

Answer

Greetings,

The way to atone for this serious transgression and to repair the defect is through complete repentance, which includes three stages:

A. Regret for the sin.

B. Verbal confession (as detailed below).

C. Acceptance upon oneself never to return to this sin again in the future

(Rambam, Laws of Repentance, Chapter 2, Halacha 2).

Verbal confession means saying, "Please Hashem, I have sinned, I have transgressed, I have rebelled before You and I have done such and such, and now I regret and am ashamed of my actions, and I will never again return to this matter" (Rambam ibid., Chapter 1, Halacha 1).

If you do as stated, the blemish will be completely erased, as if it never happened, and your guilt and sin will be atoned for.

However, it is important to know that you are forbidden to marry a kohen, as is the law for anyone who has had relations with a non-Jew

(Shulchan Aruch Even HaEzer, Siman 6, Section 8).

Be strong and take courage,

Hillel Meirs
