Eating Horse Meat

AA

Question

Why is there a prohibition against eating horse meat in Judaism?

Answer

Peace and blessings.

The horse is one of the creatures that do not possess the signs of kashrut, namely splitting the hoof and chewing the cud; therefore, it is considered a treifah (non-kosher animal).
