Birkat Hamazon on Mezonot Foods
Question
Shalom and blessings.
1) On which mezonot foods can one establish a meal requiring Birkat Hamazon?
2) Can one establish a meal on Jachnun?
3) Is there a specific amount of time in which I must eat the required quantity (I believe 216 grams)?
Thank you very much both for your answer and for your work...
Answer
Shalom and blessings.
1. Any food that appears in the form of bread, cakes, cookies, etc. However, one does not say Birkat Hamazon on noodles, porridge, and similar foods even when eaten in large quantities.
2. Jachnun is considered cooked, and one always recites only the Me'ein Shalosh (the shortened after-blessing) on it.
3. No; it suffices that you have eaten an olive-sized amount during the course of eating your portion—approximately 4 to 5 minutes.
Blessings, Binyamin Shmueli.
