Fast of the 17th of Tammuz for a Woman After Childbirth

AA

Question

Shalom Rabbi,

I am 9 months postpartum and not nursing. I wanted to know if I need to fast on the 17th of Tammuz. (I was told that until 24 months postpartum a woman is exempt from fasting)

Regards, Moran

Answer

To the questioner,

24 months exempts a nursing mother specifically from fasting.

Additionally, a sick person is exempt from fasting, and there is also leniency for someone who is weak.

Therefore, if you feel it will exhaust you beyond measure or there is any danger to the baby, Heaven forbid, if you are not strong enough to care for him, you should be lenient and not fast.

Regards,

Rabbi Nachum
