The holy Torah is divided into five books, each subdivided into weekly portions, known as parashot. There are 54 parashot in total. The weekly portion is one of these 54 parashot. It is read aloud in the synagogue on Shabbat from the Torah scroll. In this way, over the course of the year, every individual merits learning all five books of the Torah. In addition to reading the entire weekly portion on Shabbat, the beginning of the next portion is read during the Mincha prayer of the preceding Shabbat and at the Shacharit prayers on the Monday and Thursday prior to the Shabbat. In the name of the Vilna Gaon, of blessed memory, it is taught that within the parasha in which we are born is hidden a profound message. There is a rectification linked to a person's name, their parasha, birth date, and personal traits. Each name is composed of letters; each letter is a channel of divine blessing with unique qualities. The month of birth also influences a person's character and essence in this world. In the Gemara, tractate Shabbat, Rabbi Yehoshua ben Levi states that the day of birth heavily impacts a person's mission in this world. According to him, one born on Sunday will be a leader, since on this day light and darkness were created. One born on Monday will be contentious and prone to argument, as the waters were separated on it; therefore, one must be especially cautious of this trait. One born on Tuesday will be wealthy and indulgent, from the word "shefa" (abundance), as the vegetation was created on this day. One born on Wednesday will be wise and enlightened, as the luminaries were hung on this day, with some saying they will be blessed with a good memory. One born on Thursday will be charitable, as fish and birds, sustained by Hashem's kindness, were created on this day. One born on Friday will be diligent in mitzvot, for the path on Friday evening leads to the performance of Shabbat mitzvot. One born on Shabbat will be holy, for Shabbat is a foretaste of the world to come.
