Is it true that one may not kill a butterfly?
Question
Hello, Rabbi. Is it true that one is forbidden to kill butterflies? Not just for no reason, of course, only if they come into the house and are disturbing.
Thank you.
Answer
Hello,
There is no special prohibition against killing a butterfly; rather, it is like all other living creatures, which one may not kill for no purpose. If it is disturbing you, then according to the letter of the law it is permitted to kill it.
With blessings,
