What is the difference between Rabbi's certification and Badatz certification?
Question
I was asked a question that I did not know how to answer.
We only eat kosher Chalak meat at home that is certified by Badatz Rabbis Machpud/Atara/Mozaffi and similar.
I was asked: What is the difference between this certification and Rabbanut Chalak certification?
I understood that this is a reasonable question
and I don't have a true, honest answer and maybe it is indeed permissible to eat Rabbanut certified Chalak meat?
I would appreciate an extensive answer.
Thank you!
Answer
Hello and greetings,
The term "Chalak" means that there is no concern regarding the lungs (sirka). In this respect, there is no difference between Rabbanut certification and Badatz certification. The supervision of both indicates that the lung is healthy without any concern.
However, in general, Rabbanut certification tends to be more lenient in many areas since it is intended for the entire Jewish people and its role is to provide minimal kosher standards for the maximum number of people.
See here the differences between regular kosher Rabbanut and Badatz kosher.
