Question

Hello and blessings.

I dreamed that I was driving with my friend and a mutual friend in a car. We were on our way to the mutual friend's house, which is located in an area. As we passed by, I said to them, 'Look at the huge snake!' and my friend, who was seated in the back, deliberately opened the window, and I felt that the snake bit him. What does this mean? I would appreciate a prompt response as I will soon be away from my computer. I await your answer.

Thank you in advance, Meital.

Answer

Hello and blessings,

According to Chazal, seeing a snake in a dream symbolizes that livelihood will arrive or expand soon, and if the snake bit, the livelihood is doubled.

Best of luck - Menashe Israel

The attitude of people toward dreams is very polarized; some treat dreams with great seriousness, while others, conversely, in his enlightening lecture, Rabbi Menashe Ben Porat explains Judaism's position on the subject and provides a few tips for dreaming pleasant dreams.

In order to avoid bad dreams, it is proper to fulfill the obligation to recite "Shema before sleeping" at night with "the blessing of the one who puts to sleep" with God’s name and royal authority – which is capable of preventing bad dreams (Responsa Yabia Omer, part 4, page 160, note).

If, however, the bad dreams continue, it is advisable to check the mezuzah to see if it is invalid, because the harmful ones come and show him a bad dream (Book of Dream Words, page 142).

In the book "Segulot Yisrael," a segulah is brought to prevent bad dreams, stating that before going to sleep one should say: "If any dream comes to me this night, I do not wish to suffer tomorrow, neither for this nor for anything else, let it be whatever it will be."
