If someone entered the restroom in the middle of eating, must he recite a blessing again?

Question

Hello. I made a blessing over a certain food, ate some of it, and then entered the bathroom. What is the halacha regarding the initial blessing, and are there differences between types of food, for example cake, juice, and the like? Must one recite the blessing again? Please write the halacha according to Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, of blessed memory. Thank you, and good week.

Answer

Hello, One does not recite the blessing over the food again, and there is no difference between the various types of food.

Sources: It is true that Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, of blessed memory, held in the book Halichot Olam, part 2 (p. 44), that one who is eating foods or drinks whose final blessing is Borei Nefashot, and enters in the middle of eating or drinking to attend to his needs, since the place he entered is not suitable for eating, must recite the blessing over the enjoyment again, even when he returns to his original place. See there. However, his son, Rabbi Yitzchak Yosef, may he live long, brought in the book Ein Yitzchak, part 2 (p. 606), that his father, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, of blessed memory, retracted this ruling, and his final view is that one does not recite the blessing again.

With blessings, Hillel Meirs
