Do glass jars need to be immersed?

AA

Question

Glass jars used for storing food items: are they required to be immersed?

Thank you

Answer

Greetings, If the jars were manufactured by a factory owned by non-Jews, they must be immersed. However, if they are not brought to the table during the meal, but are only used to store food items, they should be immersed without a blessing.

Sources: See Halichot Olam, volume 7 (pages 256-257), and Tvilat Keilim (chapter 11, section 16).

Best wishes, Hillel Meirs
