Is there a segulah for a child who does not speak?
Question
My son will be two years old next month and still does not speak; he can barely say a few letters, and they are not clear. What should I do? Is there something that can help?
Thank you.
Answer
Shalom uverachah,
A. Rav Chaim Palagi, zt"l, wrote in his book Yimtza Chaim (siman 9) that one whose power of speech has been taken away, especially small children who still do not speak, the father and mother should pray for them that Hashem give them the power of speech, and they should go to a sage so that he will ask for mercy on their behalf.
B. It is also brought in the book Yeshuot Mordechai (page 30), in the name of Rav Mordechai Eliyahu, zt"l, that a person or child who does not speak, or who stutters, chas vshalom, his father should place his right hand on his mouth every morning and say the verse: Adonai sefatai tiftach ufi yagid tehilatecha.
Good news soon, Hillel Meirs
