All Are Presumed Blind

AA

Question

Hello, honored rabbi. I wanted to ask about the statement: "Rabbi Binyamin said: all are presumed blind until the Holy One, blessed be He, opens their eyes." What is the meaning of this? I was unable to find it anywhere. Does it mean that a person knows nothing unless the Holy One, blessed be He, shows it to him? Does every understanding a person has come only because the Holy One, blessed be He, gave him the ability to understand it, and do we understand nothing on our own?

Answer

Hello and blessings,

The intent is that even when we have something right before our eyes, if Hashem does not want it, we will not see it, and only if Hashem opens the eyes do we see what is directly before our eyes.

With blessings,

Binyamin Shimuli
