Is it Permitted to Buy Stocks Abroad?

AA

Question

Hello,
I want to invest in stocks of companies abroad.
Is this permitted? What are the conditions under which one may invest?

Answer

Hello and blessings

It is permitted to buy shares in companies abroad, and one may buy any stock, except for that of a business involved in forbidden foods [marketing all non-kosher meat, etc.], which it is very proper to avoid.

Likewise, if it is known with certainty that the business is Jewish-owned, and the owners do not keep Shabbat and are not signed on a heter iska - then it is forbidden. [Usually one does not know, and then it is permitted, since most businesses abroad belong to non-Jews].

Success,

Binyamin Shmueli
