After Which Foods Does One Recite Birkat Hamazon?

Do I Need to Recite Birkat Hamazon After a Morning Snack or Lunch?

AA

Question

After I eat a health snack in the morning and, at noon, a sandwich or a meat lunch, am I required to recite Birkat Hamazon? And if so, what do I recite? I know the Birkat Hamazon for Friday night and Shabbat is very long. - Thank you

Answer

Birkat Hamazon is recited after eating 30 grams of something over which one recites the blessing HaMotzi Lechem Min Haaretz, such as bread, a roll, pita, and the like. It is also recited after eating 216 grams of a food over which one recites Mezonot, such as cakes, cookies, biscuits, and the like. For all other foods, Birkat Hamazon is not recited afterward.

There is also a segulah in Birkat Hamazon: one who recites Birkat Hamazon with joy merits wealth and that his bread should never be lacking. (Sefer HaChinuch)
