Is There a Basis for Not Taking Out a Baby at Night for 40 Days?

AA

Question

Is there a basis for the claim that it is forbidden to take a baby out at night for 40 days? I understood that this is due to secret teachings, because I read somewhere that Maran Rabbi Ovadia Yosef said that this is a non-Jewish custom and has no basis whatsoever.

Thank you in advance

Answer

Shalom uvrakhah,

The view of HaGaon Rabbi Ovadia Yosef zt"l is that there is no concern whatsoever about taking a baby out at night within forty days of his birth.

Sources: This was also cited in his name in the book Maayan Omer, volume 12 (chapter 1, section 6). See also the book Segulot Raboteinu (page 371).

With blessings,

Hillel Meirs
