Halachot and Customs
How long after eating can one still recite a blessing?
Question
After how long is it permitted to recite Birkat HaMazon after finishing a meal, and likewise with Borei Nefashot?
Thank you :)
Answer
Greetings and blessings
Up to about seventy-two minutes after the meal, one may recite Birkat HaMazon in any case. If one still feels satiated after that, one may recite it as long as the feeling of satiation continues. The same applies to the after-blessing over any foods.
Regarding drinking, one should hurry to recite the after-blessing after finishing the drink, since some hold that after about 12 minutes the obligation to recite the blessing has already lapsed.
