Halachot and Customs
Promiscuity, and One May Not Stand by While in Danger
Question
Hello, Rabbi. I wanted to know:
a) What is the difference between a person who goes to a prostitute and sleeps with her, and a person who has a girlfriend (whom he is not married to) and sleeps with her? Is this the same transgression, and is the punishment the same in both cases? Does the fact that one pays a prostitute money make the punishment more severe? b) It is written in the Torah, "One may not stand by while in danger" - does skydiving fall under this category?
Thank you very much.
Answer
Greetings and blessings
a. Both are absolutely forbidden. However, prostitution on an occasional basis is more severe than prostitution on a fixed basis.
b. Skydiving that is carried out according to safety rules does not fall under the category of danger.
With blessings,
Benjamin Shmueli
