Is it permitted to immerse with nail polish on the toenails?

Ideally, one should follow the custom of women to cut the nails before immersion. In any case, a woman who immerses with nail polish that is neatly applied without cracks does not have a chatzitzah problem, but she must clean היטב, thoroughly, any dirt found under the nails.
