Is It Permitted to Have a Blood Test During the Nine Days?

AA

Question

Hello, Rabbi,

1. My daughter’s birthday this year is on Tisha B'Av, 22/7. I told her that I would give her the gift on 23/7. Is that possible? Or is the 10th of Av this year also postponed to the 11th?

2. Is it permitted to set a birthday date for my son so that it will take place after Tisha B'Av?

3. Is it recommended to postpone an eye exam and blood tests until after Tisha B'Av?

4. Is it permitted to buy clothing during the Three Weeks and use them only after Tisha B'Av?

5. Is it permitted to compare prices for a schoolbag for my daughter and buy it after Tisha B'Av?

Thank you in advance from the heart,

Yasmin

Answer

Hello,

1-2. Permitted.

3. Permitted. However, it is proper to avoid surgery during these days.

4. Forbidden (Rema, Orach Chaim, section 551, paragraph 7; Mishnah Berurah, subparagraph 49. So ruled also Orach LeTzion, part 3, chapter 26, section 2).

5. Permitted.

With blessings,

Hillel Meirs
