Will Everyone Be Resurrected in the Resurrection of the Dead?

AA

Question

It is well known that with the coming of the Messiah, people will rise to life. Will everyone be resurrected, or are there people who, Heaven forbid, will not merit this rising?

Thank you

Answer

Greetings,

In general, all Jews will merit rising in the resurrection of the dead, as explained in Tractate Sanhedrin (90a).

However, there are exceptions, among them: one who does not believe in the resurrection of the dead will not rise in the resurrection of the dead, measure for measure (there).

Likewise, one who did not learn Torah at all, or at least helped in some way those who study Torah, will not rise in the resurrection of the dead, because the light of Torah is what gives life to a person (Tractate Ketubot 111b).

Likewise, one who lent money with interest will not rise in the resurrection of the dead (Tosafot, Tractate Sotah 5a).

With blessings,

Hillel Meirs
